Sandi Williams, Ph.D, founder and CEO of A Wealth of Women, today announced the publication of her new book, She Had a Whole World Inside Her: A Legacy Journal for Women. The book is a guided journal that enables women to write down their life stories for their daughters, granddaughters, and future generations before those stories are lost. The journal features a foreword by H.E. Ambassador Dr. Erieka Bennett. A companion memoir, The Girl on the Bench, will be published on January 1, 2027.
Dr. Williams, 72, was raised in Harlem’s General Grant Houses and is now based in Philadelphia. Having earned her doctorate at age 60, Dr. Williams’ work has centered on helping women and girls find their voice, their purpose, and their economic independence in the United States and in Ghana.
The inspiration for the journal comes from Dr. Williams’ personal experience. As she explained, “When my mother died, my family opened a metal box she had never let us touch. Inside was a death certificate for a baby boy, a brother I never knew existed. She had carried that grief in silence her whole life. I realized I didn’t know what school she attended as a girl, who made her laugh, or what she dreamed about. Her story died with her. I wrote this journal so that other women’s stories don’t disappear as my mother’s did.”
She Had a Whole World Inside Her consists of 42 prompts that encourage the owner to describe her experiences across seven chapters of a woman’s life: the little girl, the teenager, the young woman, the builder, the wounded healer, the wise woman, and the legacy. Each chapter includes research on how writing about one’s life supports healing.
The journal covers:
- The reader’s experience as a little girl and the world that shaped her
- Family, friendships, first loves, and the people who made her who she is
- The career she built, the sacrifices she made, and the worth she learned to claim
- The losses she survived, the faith that carried her, and the dreams she still carries
- The lessons only a lifetime of becoming could teach her
- The wisdom she wants daughters, granddaughters, and the women who come after her to remember forever
